Organic Allium ‘Magic’: Architectural Drama with Sustainable Pedigree

Allium ‘Magic’ brings a structural flourish to the modern garden, combining ecological credentials with a dramatic late-spring spectacle. Organically grown and reliably perennial, its outsized, firework-like umbels deliver an unforgettable focal point—an irresistible magnet for pollinators and design-minded gardeners alike.

Height and Flowering Month
Reaching an impressive 60–90cm, ‘Magic’ bursts forth with substantial, starry purple flower heads from late May to July. Its display stands well above groundcovers and complements mixed borders with stylish punctuation.

Planting and Care
This long-lived bulb thrives in full sun but tolerates light shade. Plant bulbs 15cm deep, spaced 30cm apart in free-draining soil, preferably in autumn (September to December) for best establishment. Once flowering is finished, allow foliage to die back naturally; this replenishes the bulb for future years. Removing spent leaves won’t diminish next season’s vigour.

Companion Planting
Pair ‘Magic’ with low-growing perennials—such as Nepeta (catmint) or Geranium—to soften the base and conceal fading foliage. For maximal impact, combine with fellow alliums like ‘Purple Sensation’ or ‘Mount Everest’ to create layered or massed architectural displays. Ornamental grasses and irises offer further textural contrast, while roses or peonies provide bulk and continuity after allium blooms fade.
