PLANTING DAHLIAS INTO DISPLAY POTS OR CONTAINERS

We advise choosing a container with a minimum diameter and depth of 30cm (12in) per one mature tuber.

The best varieties of dahlias to choose from are the compact, bushy types which fill the pot as low form/height variety’s. These are not prone to drooping foliage or flowers. Many other low/medium cultivars can thrive in larger containers, if plants are given support with canes or likewise. Choose from our organic varieties below.

Dahlias are hungry plants therefore will need a rich organic compost (we recommend Dalefoot composts) with an added slow release fertiliser (such as Greenvale NPK fertiliser) for optimal root growth and good continuous blooms.

Dahlias are very thirsty and need a lot of regular watering, so make sure your container has holes and drainage at the bottom to prevent disease (we like to use small recycled plastic pots turned upside down as you can freely move your container without it being too heavy.

The soil should be damp but not muddy .

In warmer climes pots need to be watered every day/every other day for maximum results.
